North Texas is packed with excitement this weekend, from Mother’s Day celebrations and cultural festivals to concerts, movies, and high-energy events.

DALLAS — We are headed into the second weekend of May with no lack of excitement across North Texas. From Mother’s Day celebrations to festivals for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, concerts and free movie nights, there is something for everyone this weekend.

If you don’t know where to start we have you covered! WFAA’s Erica Lopez sat down with influencer Courtney Stensland to help you plan it all out. From musicals to PBR to monster trucks and family fun, she put together an incredible list of things you can do. The options are endless across the Metroplex!

ASIAN AMERICAN PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH

  • 2026 AAPI Heritage Month Festival
    • *FREE* community festival for all ages featuring cultural performances, an artisan vendor market, food stalls, pony rides to celebrate Year of the Horse and special performance by Filipina American pop singer-songwriter Francene Rouelle
    • Saturday, May 9, starting at 10 a.m.
    • Location: Sammons Park at AT&T Performing Arts Center
  • Asian Heritage Fest
    •  3-day family-friendly festival with lion dance performances, cultural performances, local vendors, interactive activities, authentic Asian cuisine and a 5k run on May 9th
    • May 8, 9, 10 *FREE ENTRY*
    • Location: 2625 W Pioneer Pkwy, Grand Prairie, TX

BROADWAY, PBR, MOVIE NIGHTS & MORE

  • Wicked on Broadway in Dallas
    • The famous Broadway musical Wicked is hitting the stage in DFW and you won’t want to miss it! It opened this week and runs through June 14th
    • Location: Music Hall at Fair Park
    • Tickets: as low as $56
  • PBR World Finals 
    • Head to Fort Worth for the Professional Bull Riding World finals. They are back in Texas for a 6th straight year! You won’t want to miss all the action. Get ready to watch the top riders compete for the coveted gold buckle.
    • Starts May 7th at Cowtown Coliseum in the Fort Worth Stockyards
    • May 8 & 9: UBF Midnight Bullfights – two late-night performances at 11:30 p.m. 
    • Then looking ahead: Finals weekend, is May 14-17 at Dickies Arena
      • This is the weekend of concerts!
  • Friday Night Movies on the Lawn 
    • This is a free event, starting Friday May 9th and runs every Friday in May! Get ready for movie night plus local vendors, food and drinks
    • Location: Main Street Garden Park in Downtown Dallas
    • Movie starts at 7:30pm, this week is Top Gun Maverick
  • NEW PARK OPENING 
    • Head to Dallas for the opening of Halperin Park this Saturday, May 9th. It’s near I-35 and South Lancaster Avenue, between Marsalis and Ewing. Halperin Park is a landmark project to bring five acres of green space, a rooftop garden, pavilion, and more to Southern Dallas.
    • Join the celebration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monster Truck Wars 
    • Calling all Monster truck fans! This is a national touring live entertainment company, specializing in Monster Trucks, Truck/Tractor Pulling, Mud Racing etc.

    •  Location: Fair Park Coliseum
  • Melting Pot Market at Grandscape 
    • Get ready for more than 80 vendors, DJ’s, an outdoor market and more! The event is free. Support local businesses and shop for apparel, jewelry and vintage finds.
    • Saturday, May 9 from 2 to 8 p.m.
    • Location: Grandscape
  • The Other Art Fair 
    • Discover 135 independent artists and thousands of original works of art, plus live music, DJs, drinks, interactive moments, collaborative drawing experience and more!
    • May 7 to 10
    • Location: Dallas Market Hall
  • Yoga at The Eye 
    • Enjoy your monthly dose of outdoor yoga, beneath The Eye sculpture in Dallas at The Joule, led by instructor Alex Jalbert. This is the second Saturday of each month, from 9 to 10 a.m. It’s a 60-minute all-level Vinyasa flow class.
    • Free for hotel guests, $25 for locals; this includes your mat, towels, water, and yoga blocks
    • Complimentary 2-hour valet parking at The Joule

Things to do for Mother’s Day! A few ideas outside of your traditional brunch to celebrate mom.

  • Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother’s Day Tour
    • This is the 51st-anniversary event in East Dallas featuring historic homes, food trucks, and live entertainment. You can step inside some of Dallas’ most beautiful homes, showcasing early 20th-century styles like Tudor, Spanish Revival, and Georgian.
    • How to get around: Hop on complimentary air-conditioned mini-coaches, take a horse-drawn carriage down the avenue, or do the new self-guided walking tour with history plaques along the way.
    • There will also be live entertainment, local artisan vendors, and handmade goods set up around Savage Park.

  • Mother’s Day Market at Pegasus Plaza
    • This is an outdoor event featuring local vendors for shopping, music, and community vibes
    • Free to attend
    • Sunday, May 10th from 12-5pm
  • Mother’s Day Market
    • Enjoy $6 Mimosas, shop 20+ local vendors with everything from permanent jewelry, a bouquet bar, hat bar and live music.
    • Location: Legacy Hall in Frisco

  • Candlelight: Tribute to Taylor Swift 
    • Calling all Swifites. Candlelight concerts bring the magic of a live, multi-sensory musical experience to awe-inspiring locations like never seen before in Dallas. All to the tunes of Taylor Swift!

  • Cool Thursdays Concerts Series
    • This event has been around for 29 years! Set against the backdrop of White Rock Lake, it’s a fun way to get outside and watch live music!

  • BigXthaPlug & Friends Birthday Bash
    • Celebrate Dallas born rapper BigXthePlug with a stellar lineup. With artists like Shaboozy, Keyshia Cole, and Sexyy Red. Head to Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas on Friday for the fun!

  • Dave Mathews Band
