WWI-era object found in Memorial Park; Houston police bomb squad called

At this point, it’s not clear what the object is. We have a crew heading to the scene.

HOUSTON — We’re following breaking news out of Memorial Park, where an object reportedly from the World War I era has been found.

The Houston Police Department first posted about it a little before 3 p.m. In their post, they said the bomb squad was there looking at the “unexploded WW I era ordnance” that was found in the woods.

Their post said they were working to make it safe, and they also asked people to avoid the area.

At this point, it’s not clear exactly what the object is or if anyone has been hurt.

Reporter Maria Aguilera is heading to the scene and will have reports coming up on KHOU 11 News.

This is a developing story. We’ll add more details as we learn them.

Memorial Park is no stranger to military objects. The park used to be home to Camp Logan and served as a training camp for World War I soldiers from 1917 to 1919.
