Wrong-way driver triggers crash on Interstate 45, witnesses say

A wrong-way driver caused a chain-reaction crash on I-45 South in Houston, and one witness says it “looked like a movie scene.”

HOUSTON — A wrong-way driver caused a chaotic chain-reaction crash early Tuesday morning on the North Freeway, leaving behind a trail of debris and damaged vehicles.

KHOU 11 crews witnessed the incident around 1 a.m. while driving along the North Freeway. According to witnesses, the driver was heading the wrong way down the interstate when they slammed head-on into another vehicle.

Xavien Riascos, who pulled up shortly after the crash, described the moment another vehicle rear-ended him while he tried to avoid the wreckage.

“That was insane. I didn’t know it was actually a wrong-way driver that caused it,” Riascos said. “Like I said, it looked like a movie scene.”

Riascos said he’s OK and is thankful no one was severely hurt.

Officials have not yet said whether the wrong-way driver will face charges. The crash remains under investigation.
