Woman finds 2.3 carat diamond at state park, plans to use in engagement ring

MURFREESBORO, Ark. (KARK) – A New York woman completed her mission of finding the key component of her engagement ring after snagging a 2.3-carat diamond at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas.

About two years ago, New York City native Micherre Fox decided to find her own diamond for an engagement ring. She set out on a month-long break after completing graduate school to search for one.

“There’s something symbolic about being able to solve problems with money, but sometimes money runs out in a marriage,” she explained in a release from Arkansas State Parks. “You need to be willing and able to solve those problems with hard work.”

Fox said she was willing to go anywhere in the world to make it happen, and ultimately ended up at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro.

During a three-week hunt, Fox searched for diamonds nearly every day. On her last day at the park, she said she found “the most diamond-y diamond” she had seen.

“After all the research, there’s luck and there’s hard work,” she said. “When you are literally picking up the dirt in your hands, no amount of research can do that for you; no amount of education can take you all the way. It was daunting!”

Her diamond find is the size of a human canine tooth, with a smooth, round shape and metallic luster. Fox named her gem the Fox-Ballou Diamond after her and her partner’s last name.

Her find is the third-largest diamond found at the park in 2025 so far. In total, 366 diamonds have been registered at Crater of Diamonds State Park this year, including 11 weighing more than one carat each.
