Wings vs. Fever: Paige Bueckers to face Caitlin Clark on Aug. 1 at AAC

Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark have another opportunity to face off for the first time in their professional careers when the Fever come to town in August.

DALLAS — The Dallas Wings and Indiana Fever’s August 1 matchup in Dallas is moving from Arlington’s College Park Center to Dallas’ American Airlines Center, the Wings announced.

That means Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark will now have another opportunity to play against each other for the first time in their professional careers — and once again on a bigger-than-usual stage. They two were previously slated to face off at the American Airlines Center during the teams’ first matchup this season on June 27, but only Bueckers took the floor as Clark was sidelined with an injury.

Fans who had previously purchased tickets to August 1 game when it was scheduled for College Park Center will be refunded via the ticketing service AXS. Season ticket members and group ticket purchasers will have their seat relocated to what the Wings says will be a “comparable location” at the AAC.

Tickets to the August 1 game at the AAC will go on sale for the everyone else via Ticketmaster on Friday, July 11, at 10 a.m.

As with this upcoming August game, the Wings’ earlier June home contest against the Fever was also moved from the team’s typical College Park Center venue to the AAC in anticipation of Clark playing and her star power. Tickets to that game sold out a day in advance of it taking place, the team announced at the time.

Even without Clark on the court, 20,409 fans still attended the game — a regular-season franchise record for the Wings, and the eighth regular-season game in WNBA history to be played in front of 20,000 or more fans. The game also drew an additional 1.14 million national viewers on ION, becoming that TV network’s most-watched game of this WNBA season.

In that first Wings-Fever contest, the home team fell to the Fever 94-86, ending Dallas’ three-game winning streak. Bueckers still shined, though, scoring 27 points and notched 6 assists in the matchup.

Clark was ruled out just hours ahead of that game’s tipoff, WFAA previously reported. Now, the August 1 game offers something of a do-over. Barring injury, what was expected in June should serve as the first professional matchup between Clark, the first pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, and Bueckers, who the Wings took with the first pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m., and — as with last time — the game will once again air nationally on ION.
