What time does Ronda Rousey fight Gina Carano?

The main card starts Saturday night, but there are a couple fights ahead of the main event. Here’s what to know.

WASHINGTON — Olympic champion Ronda Rousey is headed into the cage for the first time in nearly a decade.

On Saturday night, Rousey and Gina Carano will headline Netflix’s first-ever live MMA event. The fight marks the first time the MMA fighters face each other and a comeback for both athletes.

“Been waiting so long to announce this,” Rousey told Netflix. “Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history. This is for all MMA fans past, present, and future.”

Rousey had a dominant run from 2011 until 2016, dominating and transforming women’s MMA. She went on to become a UFC Bantamweight Champion and is known for finishing fights in an explosive fashion, often within the opening minute, according to Netflix. She also transitioned into acting, with roles in the “Fast & Furious” and “The Expendables” franchises.

Carano is considered one of the original stars of women’s MMA. She competed from 2006 to 2009 before dipping her toes in acting, with roles in “Haywire,” “Fast & Furious 6,” “Deadpool” and “The Mandalorian.”

“She thanked me for opening up doors for her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen,” Carano said about the fight with Rousey. “This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win, and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome.”

What time does Ronda Rousey fight Gina Carano?

The main fight will take place in the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET. Preliminary rounds will start at 5 p.m. ET.

The fight will be contested over five five-minute rounds using 4-ounce MMA gloves. The two will fight under the Unified Rules of MMA, allowing fighters to use striking, grappling, submissions, and takedowns. Unlike boxing, MMA combines techniques from disciplines including boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, karate and judo, with fights taking place both standing and on the ground.

If you have a Netflix subscription, you’ll be able to watch the fight with no necessary pay-per-view price.

“After the record-breaking success in boxing, we wanted our first MMA event to be truly legendary,” Netflix’s Vice President of Sports Gabe Spitzer said in a news release. “These are more than just athletes — they are generational stars, and having them headline our MMA debut at the Intuit Dome is a defining moment for us.”
