Teen critically injured after shooting inside west Houston dispensary as police review surveillance video and investigate whether charges will be filed.
HOUSTON — A teenager is in critical condition after being shot multiple times inside a west Houston dispensary overnight, according to Houston police. Investigators say surveillance video captured what happened inside the store, but authorities have not yet confirmed whether any charges will be filed.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Monday at the GreenHouse Dispensary along Long Point Road in west Houston.
Houston police say a juvenile male entered the dispensary late Monday night. Investigators say when the teen tried to leave the store, an employee inside shot him multiple times.
Officers said the teen was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Police said investigators have reviewed several videos from inside the store and said it is “very clear” what happened, though authorities did not publicly confirm additional details about the moments leading up to the shooting.
KHOU 11 spoke with the employee’s father at the scene. He said the teen was stealing and scared his son before the shooting happened.
“He’s very remorseful. I know my son, he didn’t want to do what he did. It happened. I feel sorry for the kid and I feel sorry for the kid’s family also,” Angel, the employee’s father, said.
When asked about firearms inside the business, he added, “Nowadays you have to, I mean, anything happens. It could have been him or him, him or the kid.”
Police said the employee who fired the shots was detained at the scene while Major Assaults investigators reviewed surveillance video and gathered evidence.
Authorities said only one firearm was recovered at the scene, and investigators said it belonged to the employee working inside the dispensary.
Investigators say it remains unclear whether charges will be filed. Police said the case could ultimately be reviewed by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office or referred to a grand jury as the investigation continues.
