Vultures are a problem in Brenham. Here’s what the city is doing about it.

According to a post on Facebook, the city says more than 200 vultures have been causing damage in the city.

The city of Brenham is about to start performing harassment techniques to get rid of nuisance flocks of vultures. 

The city posted a notice on Facebook Monday saying more than 200 vultures have been hanging around and causing property damage, mainly around the S Chappell Hill/Pecan/Kerr Street areas.  

The city is working with the Texas Wildlife Services Program to send the vultures somewhere else. 

Vultures are a protected species, so the city and wildlife officials will be using pyrotechnics like screamers and bangs in the early morning and in the evening from now until September 12 to try to scare them away. 

“These are harmless to the general public and only harass or annoy the vultures to make them uncomfortable in this area,” the city’s post reads.  

According to the city, the screamers and bangs can be heard across a wide area, so they wanted to give everyone a heads up.
