Uvalde CISD board votes unanimously to release Robb Elementary records

UVALDE, Texas – Uvalde CISD’s board voted unanimously in favor of releasing records from the Robb Elementary shooting during a Monday evening board meeting.

Last week, a Texas appeals court ruled in favor of TheTXLoop 12 and several other news outlets’ request for the release of school and county records from law enforcement’s response to the 2022 massacre.

Nineteen children and two teachers were killed in the shooting.

The school board made their decision after spending 50 minutes in closed session and listening to public comment. They did not give a date for the release.

“I’m sorry it took this long to release this information,” Board Member Javier Flores said.

Board Secretary Jesse Rizo, whose niece, Jackie Cazares, died in the shooting, said he was “sorry it took so long.”

Jackie’s mother, Gloria Cazares, said she fully supports the release of records.

“It’s about making sure what happens to my daughter never happens to another child,” Cazares said at the meeting. “I’m here today to demand the truth. You all owe it to Jackie, to her classmates, to her teachers.”

Berlinda Arreola’s granddaughter, Amerie Jo Garza, was also among those killed in the shooting.

Arreola told the board on Monday that she was there to “demand the truth.”

“I’m here to ask that you do not drag this out any longer. … Trust starts with you,” she said.
