Travis Co. declares disaster for flash flood emergency

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Travis County issued a disaster declaration Saturday afternoon in response to ongoing flooding. As of Saturday afternoon, first responders had conducted about two dozen water rescues, and search efforts were still underway.

The Travis County Emergency Operations Center was activated overnight as first responders began receiving dozens of water rescue calls. The Sandy Creek area in northwest Travis County was hit hardest, with the first flood reports coming from the Cow Creek area.

“The flooding we’re seeing in parts of western Travis County is devastating,” said County Judge Andy Brown. “We have activated all available emergency resources and will continue working closely with state and local partners to help those affected recover from this disaster.”

The declaration is intended to speed up efforts to clear roads, remove debris, and assist displaced residents.

Williamson County has also issued a disaster declaration.
