It’s not every day you see the GOAT of skateboarding shred at your local park.
ANNA, Texas — There was a Hawk sighting in North Texas — a Tony Hawk sighting.
Hawk, a legendary pioneer in skateboarding, dropped in at Anna Skatepark at Slayter Creek Park on Tuesday and showed off some tricks on social media. The 57-year-old skater still has it, grinding on rails and sticking landings.
Hawk did take a tumble onto the concrete, but in over four decades of skateboarding, he seems to have gotten used to it.
The City of Anna caught wind of the Hawk sighting and showed up to snag some photos.
“Thanks for making our day!” the city’s Instagram commented under the skater’s post. “LOVED having you in Anna!”
Many commenters asked if the City invited Hawk to skate at the park, but officials were just as surprised as the rest of North Texas.
“He just showed up!” the City wrote in one comment. “Surprised us all. Luckily for us our Parks Maintenance crews were at the park working and noticed him!”
WFAA has reached out to the City to ask why Hawk was in town, but haven’t heard back at the time of publishing.
Hawk took photos with several parkgoers, who shared their photos on social media.
Tony Hawk was a breakout sensation for the sport of skateboarding, going pro at just 14 years old. He is widely regarded as the GOAT of skateboarding, winning over 70 competitions. His success paved the way for an extremely popular video game series, ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater,’ which has sold over 30 million copies.
Hawk has moved away from competition, focusing on his skateboarding brand, Birdhouse, and philanthropy through The Skatepark Project, which helps build public skateparks for underserved communities.
