These are the most popular baby names for 2025

The Social Security Administration released its annual baby name rankings, revealing a seventh consecutive year atop the charts for the same duo.

WASHINGTON — For the seventh consecutive year, Olivia and Liam are America’s most popular baby names, a streak that makes them the longest-reigning duo in the modern history of the Social Security Administration’s annual rankings.

The SSA released its 2025 baby name data on Friday, drawing from Social Security card applications submitted at birth. The list, published each year in honor of Mother’s Day, covers the 1,000 most popular names for boys and girls nationwide.

While the top of the list held firm, there was a notable change in the girls’ rankings: Charlotte climbed to second place, ending Emma’s six-year run as runner-up. Emma slipped to third. Meanwhile, Ava, a fixture in the top 10 for years, dropped off the list entirely, replaced by Eliana, which debuted at No. 10.

The boys’ top four — Liam, Noah, Oliver and Theodore — held their positions unchanged from the prior year. The entire boys’ top 10 remains the same names from 2024.

The boys’ name Kasai, meaning “fire” in both Japanese and Swahili, surged 1,108 positions to land at No. 639, the biggest jump of any name entering the top 1,000 for the first time. The top five fastest-rising boys’ names were Kasai, Akari, Eziah, Jasai and Neithan.

On the girls’ side, Klarity saw the biggest jump, followed by Rynlee, Ailanny, Naylani and Madisson.

The SSA has compiled baby name data since 1997, though its full database allows users to search name popularity going back to 1880, and to filter results by state. You can see the full list of the 1,000 most popular baby names in 2024 at www.ssa.gov/babynames, and see how popular your name was the year you were born and where it is currently ranked now.
