A Garland woman who won $1M at Choctaw Casino is sharing her jackpot with two North Texas schools, funding tech upgrades and an outdoor learning space.
GARLAND, Texas — A recent Garland lottery winner is turning her good fortune into a gift for North Texas students.
In June, Fuong H. hit a $1 million jackpot at Choctaw Casino & Resort – Durant. Now, she’s paying it forward and choosing her grandkids’ schools, Richardson Heights Elementary and Richardson West Junior High, to share a $10,000 donation from the casino.
Fuong’s big win came just a week after she retired from a 33-year career in the jewelry business. Fuong said choosing to support two Richardson ISD schools was a way to give back close to home.
Richardson Heights Elementary principal Megan Martin said the funds will help transform the school’s garden and courtyard into “a really exciting place for learning” and provide another outdoor space where students can grow.
At Richardson West Junior High, principal Jose Vega said the donation will enhance the school’s recent technology upgrades, including new iPads for students and MacBook M4s for teachers.
“We are going to work with our PTA to find innovative ways to help enhance the technology experience for our students,” Vega said.
“It’s exciting to see our first charitable donation make a positive impact for hundreds of students,” Kaley Lehew, a casino spokesperson, said.
