Texas DMV set to replace temporary tags with metal license plates

Beginning July 1, Texas will certainly implement brand-new policies for automobile acquisitions, changing short-lived paper permit tags with permanent steel certificate plates to combat fraud. This modification adheres to the passage of Home Expense 718 during the 88 th legislative session.

Trick Facets of the Legislation:

Purchasing from a Supplier:

  • Buyers will obtain metal license plates when distribution, enabling them to operate the car while waiting for enrollment stickers.

Trading to a Dealer:

  • Certificate plates will stay with the dealership (unless specialized plates) and will be designated to the brand-new customer. Suppliers have to file a Lorry Transfer Alert (VTN) with the DMV to update records.

Private Sales:

  • Purchasers will keep the existing license plates and register the vehicle in their name. Vendors should send a VTN within 30 days, including the buyer’s info.
