Terry Black’s Barbecue plans to open its first Houston location in the Heights.
HOUSTON — Terry Black’s Barbecue, a family-owned barbecue chain with roots in Lockhart and Austin, is planning to open its first Houston location as part of a major expansion effort.
A May 27 filing submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said the company plans to open the new location at 1311 N. Shepherd Drive, between Shepherd and Durham Drive in the Heights.
The filing said building out the space the restaurant will occupy is expected to cost $6.5 million. The buildout will affect both the 7,066-square-foot restaurant space itself and a separate 1,255-square-foot pit house structure.
Construction work is scheduled to begin in August and is expected to wrap up in mid-2026, per the filing.
1311 N. Shepherd Drive was previously occupied by a used car company called H.E.D. Sales Co.
Terry Black’s Barbecue also has restaurants in Dallas, Fort Worth and Waco.
