The 19-year-old finance student, Giles Pond, died in an ATV accident in Colorado last week, the school announced in an email to students, parents and staff.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Giles Anthony Pond, a 19-year-old Texas Christian University student, died in an ATV accident, the university confirmed Monday.
In an email from Vice Chancellor Cavins-Tull, the university says Pond died in Colorado on June 10. Details surrounding the incident were not immediately released.
Pond, a native of Houston, was a finance major at TCU and had recently completed his freshman year. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and had earned placement on the Dean’s List, according to Pond’s online obituary.
Known for his infectious energy and kindness, Pond was remembered by family and friends as someone who brought joy to every room and had an extraordinary ability to make others feel seen and included.
“This is a tragic loss for our campus and it is complicated by the challenge of Giles’ friends, faculty and staff members being separated because of summer break,” the university said in a statement. “Still, our resources stand ready to assist those needs.”
Prior to college, Pond attended St. Michael Catholic School and graduated from Memorial High School. He is survived by his parents, Marlo and David Pond, and siblings Pilar, Corbin, and Belicia.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons funeral home in Houston, with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and eulogies to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, June 20, at 2 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Honoring Hope and Faith Rescue, reflecting Giles’ love of dogs.
TCU said it will host a vigil to honor Pond when students return to campus in the fall.
