Target files plans to add store in North Houston

Residents in The Heights and nearby north Houston neighborhoods may soon have a new Target store.

HOUSTON — Target is planning to open a new store in north Houston soon, according to paperwork submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation this week.

The 129,490-square-foot Target is planned for 4000 North Shepherd Drive in Garden Oaks, according to the filing.

The new $19.1 million store is expected to break ground in April 2026 and be completed in March 2027, the filing said.

In a statement to the Houston Business Journal, a Target spokesperson confirmed the company’s interest in the Garden Oaks area.

“At Target, we continuously explore possible locations for new stores,” the spokesperson said. “I can tell you we are pursuing the opportunity to reach guests in the Houston Garden Oaks area. But at this time, we’re not at a point where we can share any new store plans.”

TDLR filings are preliminary and are often subject to change.
