A crash through a Bell County home trapped a woman between a car and a boat, prompting a complex rescue effort.
BELL COUNTY, Texas — A woman was airlifted to a Temple hospital early Saturday morning after a vehicle crashed through a Bell County home and pinned her between the car and a boat in the bedroom, according to Sparta Fire and Rescue.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:34 a.m. on May 2 near the intersection of Denman’s Loop and Waterworks Road, when a vehicle reportedly left the roadway and drove completely through the residence.
Crews arriving to the scene found the vehicle had traveled almost entirely through the structure before coming to rest in the bedroom, against a boat stored adjacent to the home’s rear wall in the backyard. Officials described the incident as having caused significant structural damage, which resulted in a complex rescue environment.
Firefighters were able to locate and remove the driver from the vehicle during an initial search of the property. The driver, who according to authorities appeared intoxicated, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was treated and transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
A secondary search of the property revealed a female resident of the house stuck beneath the vehicle and pinned against the boat.
Sparta Fire and Rescue requested additional support from the Nolanville Fire Department, Temple Fire and Rescue, BeltonEMS and PHI Air Medical after discovering the trapped woman.
Officials state that the extraction took 30 to 40 minutes, and that following her successful rescue, Belton EMS transported the patient to the PHI Air Medical flight landing zone, where she was airlifted to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple. All other occupants of the residence were evaluated by EMS and released on scene.
