A burglary suspect died during a shootout with Houston police on Sunday night.
HOUSTON — Authorities said a man was shot and killed Sunday in a shootout with a Houston Police Department sergeant.
HPD officials said the shootout happened when officers were responding to a reported burglary at an apartment complex on Bellfort Avenue.
They said the incident began when officers responded to a burglary call involving a female victim. The suspect reportedly ran from the scene and encountered an HPD Southeast Division sergeant who was already in the area on another, possibly related, call.
The sergeant shot and killed the male suspect in an exchange of gunfire just before midnight, officials said.
The injured woman was reported to be inside an apartment located one block away from where the shooting happened.
HPD Special Investigations Unit and Internal Affairs are currently handling the investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased suspect or the condition of the injured female victim.
