A man accused of attempted bank robbery was arrested after a SWAT standoff, Mesquite police said.
MESQUITE, Texas — A suspect in an attempted bank robbery was arrested after a SWAT standoff at a Garland motel, police said.
Officers responded around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, to information that a suspect wanted in connection with an attempted robbery was staying at a motel in the 200 block of West Interstate 30, the Mesquite Police Department said in a press release.
The suspect was identified as 56-year-old Billy Jean Stewart of Rowlett. He was wanted in connection with an attempted Dallas bank robbery and was considered armed and dangerous, according to the release.
When officers responded to the scene, they confirmed that Stewart was in the motel room, and after repeated attempts to contact him, the SWAT team was activated.
After several hours, SWAT officers entered the room and took Stewart into custody without injury.
Stewart was charged with attempted robbery and manufacturing a controlled substance greater than 200 grams.
