Sugar Land gator: Police make Labor Day stop on Highway 6

The Sugar Land Police Department posted about the Labor Day gator on Tuesday morning.

SUGAR LAND, Texas — Why did the gator cross the road? It may be a question we’ll never know the answer to, since one in Sugar Land was stopped before making it.

This 8-footer was spotted Monday night in the lanes of Highway 6 just north of Highway 90. According to the Sugar Land Police Department, the gator was removed from the road and relocated to what police said was a suitable habitat.

The Sugar Land Police Department posted about the Labor Day gator on Tuesday morning, and the jokes in the comments followed.

“I heard he was following a chicken to see why he crossed the road….,” posted one commenter.

“He was just trying to get to the airport to take his Lab Day vacation flight,” posted another.

Other commenters went the pun route.

“He’s an investi-gator. Doing his job,” read one comment.

Another responded with, “Sounds like you guys were SWAMPED last night.”

Gators are most active in Texas in the spring and summer, primarily mid-March through July, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife. That aligns with their breeding and nesting seasons.

Looks like this 8-foot fella didn’t get the memo about Labor Day last night.

Not your typical holiday traffic stop, but rest assured our VIP was safely escorted off the road and back into a suitable habitat.
