Small plane crashes in field near Forney neighborhood, sending 2 people to the hospital, officials say

A single-engine plane made an emergency landing in Forney, injuring two. The FAA is investigating the crash that occurred near a residential area.

FORNEY, Texas — A single-engine plane crashed in a field near a neighborhood in Forney on Saturday morning, police said.

The Forney Police Department said officers and Forney Fire personnel responded to the crash, which happened in the shortly after midnight Sage Hill Pkwy and Helms Trail. According to police, the plane, which had three people on board, made its emergency landing in a nearby field. This area is just south of U.S. Highway 80 and a neighborhood of homes is close by. The FAA said the plane was a Bellanca Downer 14-19-3. 

Two of the people on the plane were taken to the hospital, while a third was treated and released at the scene.

Further details about what lead up to the crash were not immediately available.

The FAA said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
