Shredder Ski and Snowboarding school opened in January.
RICHARDSON, Texas — Summer has arrived in Texas, but it’s still winter somewhere.
For anyone hoping to find a patch of snow to ski or snowboard, there’s a new spot in Dallas that wants to help get you ready.
Shredder Indoor Ski and Snowboard School opened in January in Richardson.
“People are really happy we’re here,” said Shredder owner Robert Lacey. “They’re like, ‘this is awesome.’”
Lacey grew up in Vermont and went skiing all the time.
After moving to North Texas a few years ago, he saw the Shredder concept online and thought it was a good idea.
He never could’ve imagined.
“I just didn’t know the amount of people that ski in Dallas,” Lacey said.
Since opening in January, there’s been an avalanche of interest.
Lacey said although they offer private lessons for adults, Shredder is mostly for kids.
It teaches them the basics of skiing or snowboarding so they’re prepared to hit the slopes.
Some already have taken what they’ve learned, gone to the mountains and had success.
“It’s like, ‘it actually works,’ so it’s been really cool to see,” Lacey said.
