Shooting at Houston bus stop injures one

An altercation at a Houston bus shelter led to a shooting, injuring one person, police said Friday.

HOUSTON — One person was shot in the hand following an altercation between two men at a METRO bus shelter in southwest Houston Friday afternoon, according to Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County and Houston Police Department officials.

The shooting occurred near the intersection of South Gessner and Richmond Avenue in the Westchase area around 4:20 p.m. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

METRO confirmed that preliminary reports indicate the shooting resulted from an altercation between two males at the bus shelter. One individual was struck in the hand during the incident. The shooting victim is expected to survive. METRO police later said the suspect was taken into custody.

Houston Police Department Lieutenant Crowson reported that the call came in around 4:20 p.m. regarding a person shot at the METRO bus stop at Richmond Avenue and South Gessner Road.

The investigation remains active, with both METRO and HPD working to gather additional details. No information regarding the victim’s age, gender, or current condition has been released at this time.
