Senate’s budget bill impacts Houston’s energy projects

The Senate began voting on amendments to the bill June 30 after advancing the legislation over the weekend.

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — With President Donald Trump pushing to get a budget bill to his desk to sign by the Fourth of July, the U.S. Senate is under pressure to vote for the “One Big Beautiful Bill” in the coming days.

But some Houston businesses are hoping there could be last-minute changes before the vote because some of the current policy in the Senate’s bill could have big impacts on local energy projects.

The biggest items on the chopping block as politicians try to roll back Inflation Reduction Act measures are tax credits for energy transition technologies like hydrogen, wind and solar.

The oil and gas industry has been vocal about the need for tax credits for hydrogen and carbon capture — the 45V and 45Q tax credits, respectively — which help make the emerging technologies economically feasible as they scale up.
