Sen. John Cornyn to speak about bringing Space Shuttle Discovery to Houston

He’s expected to speak at Space Center Houston a little after 10 a.m.

HOUSTON — U.S. Senator John Cornyn will visit Space Center Houston on Friday.

This comes after he and Senator Ted Cruz filed legislation to bring Space Shuttle Discovery to Houston. Space Center Houston doesn’t have a shuttle. We just have a replica.

According to a news release from Cornyn’s office, Space Shuttle Discovery is owned by the federal government. It is currently in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia.

His conversation with a retired astronaut and other NASA staff is set to begin at 9:45 a.m. Then we expect a statement from Senator Cornyn at 10:30 a.m.

As for the other space shuttles in the fleet, Atlantis is at the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex in Florida, Endeavor is at the California Science Center, and Enterprise is at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York.

We’ll stream his comments live on KHOU 11+.
