Semi-trailer crash causes delays on US-290 freeway

An 18-wheeler caused major traffic delays on US-290 by striking a barrier wall near Mason Road.

HOUSTON — An 18-wheeler struck a barrier wall in the HOV lane of the Northwest Freeway near Mason Road Tuesday afternoon, creating major traffic delays and blocking multiple lanes on the eastbound side of US-290, according to Harris County Constable Precinct 4.

The accident occurred on Northwest Freeway at Mason Road at about 4:14 p.m., according to Houston TranStar. Two vehicles were involved in the crash, which has shut down the left shoulder, left lane and center lane eastbound (inbound) and opposing left shoulder (outbound).

Precinct 4 deputies are assisting the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at the scene of what officials are calling a “major accident.” Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, said drivers should expect delays in the area.

The heavy truck accident has significantly impacted traffic on the busy freeway during the afternoon rush hour. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes or allow extra time for travel through the area while emergency responders work to clear the scene.


The traffic map showed a delay of 23 minutes as of 4:45 p.m.
