Friends are honoring victims after a deadly shooting at a Liberty County bar left one man dead and five others injured.
LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas — Friends of the victims are speaking out after a gunman opened fire at a Liberty County bar early Sunday morning, killing one man and injuring five others.
The shooting happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. at the Alas Locas restaurant and bar in the Plum Grove area.
When deputies arrived, they found six people who had been shot. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two victims were flown to an area hospital in critical condition. As of Sunday night, one of those victims was still in critical condition.
The remaining three victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to LCSO.
Investigators said the suspect had been at the bar around midnight, where he drank several beers and paid in cash. Two hours later, he returned with a handgun and started shooting—first at people on the patio, then through the front door.
For friends like Yahaira Guadarrama, the loss is personal. She said she often spent time at Alas Locas with those who were caught up in the violence.
“It could have been one of us [me or my husband],” Guadarrama said. “And it hurts because it’s not just friends, it’s somebody that I know if anything happens we are like I got your back, if you need anything, let me know.”
Guadarrama added that she wants the suspect to face justice.
“Nothing is going to be back to normal, nothing is going to be the same no more, so he really messed up, so I just hope he gets what he deserves,” she said.
Deputies released surveillance images showing the suspect leaving in a white, full-size van with no side windows and a scratch along the side. The vehicle was also seen hitting another car as it drove away.
The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect has not been identified or arrested. The suspect’s motive is also unknown. Investigators continue to follow tips and review video from the scene.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-392-7867.
