AUSTIN (KXAN) – It was pretty known it was going to be a difficult weekend at the 2025 US Open beforehand. With the leader sitting alone at three under after two days, that has certainly rung true.
Sam Burns leads at -3, with only two other players under par after Friday’s second round. J.J. Spaun, who lead after one round, shot a 72 Friday and now sits at -2. Viktor Hovland impressed Friday with a 68 to make it to one under par.
Former Longhorn Scottie Scheffler was the big favorite heading into the weekend at Oakmont Country Club. The 2025 PGA Championship winner finds himself within striking distance at four over.
Scheffler improved his opening round score of 73 by notching a 71 Friday. He is tied for 23rd.
Fellow Texas Ex Jordan Spieth is one shot behind Scheffler after two rounds. A frustrating day that included a double bogey on nine has Spieth further back than he would like, but firmly made the cut.
Round three is available to watching starting at 11:00 a.m. on KXAN Saturday.
