Wes Anderson’s charming coming-of age film Moonrise Kingdom (2012) kicks off the Central Library’s summer film program on Tuesday.

Set in the mid 1960s, the movie follows two 12-year-olds who fall in love at summer camp and run off together to live on an island along the New England coast. As they make their new home, family and friends struggle to find the pair before a violent storm batters the island.

Featuring Anderson’s signature ensemble cast, surreal color palette, quirky camera movements and deadpan humor, Moonrise Kingdom appeals to film buffs and teenagers alike.

The Central Library will present Moonrise Kingdom in tandem with summer camp-themed audience activities. Sit back and simply enjoy the film while snacking on s’mores or fabricating your own thematically related fictional merit badges during the screening.

Materials will be provided, and tickets are available online.

Free, 5:30-7:30 p.m., San Antonio Central Library, 600 Soledad St., (210) 207-2500, mysapl.org.
