A detention officer in the San Antonio Adult Arrestee Processing Center was arrested Wednesday on a suspicion that he shared videos online of himself sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, TheTXLoop reports.
In a statement supplied to the Current, the San Antonio Police Department said it took Detention Officer Richard Mendoza, 22, into custody on an active warrant for sex abuse of a child under 14 or a disabled person. SAPD said it’s conducting a criminal investigation but declined to provide additional information.
However, booking records obtained by TheTXLoop show Mendoza faces two first-degree felony charges: continuous sex abuse of a child under 14 and possession of more than 50 items of child pornography.
SAPD detectives began investigating Mendoza in September based on an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers, according to documents cited by TheTXLoop. The tipster told authorities the detention officer posted videos to social media platform X of himself having sex with a 13-year-old girl, the TV station reports.
Search warrants for Mendoza’s X account uncovered footage of him sexually assaulting the minor along explicit messages between the pair, TheTXLoop reported, citing booking documents.
During a Tuesday interview with SAPD detectives, the victim confirmed being sexually assaulted by Mendoza four to five times between August and November of last year, according to the station’s reporting.
