ROANOKE, Texas — A North Texas fire department is mourning a 38-year-old firefighter who died after experiencing a medical emergency.

The Roanoke Fire Department said Fire Captain Michael Reedy, 38, died after he was relieved of duty June 25 because of a “sudden medical emergency.”

“We are devastated by the loss of one of our own. Captain Reedy embodied the highest ideals of our profession—honor, service, and brotherhood. Our department is mourning together as a family, and we extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” said Roanoke Fire Chief Christopher Addington.

Reedy joined the Roanoke Fire Department in 2007 as a volunteer firefighter and was hired full-time in 2008.

He was also a member of the department’s Fire Honor Guard and helped lead the department’s fire safety public education team, the Roanoke Klownz on Fire.

“Captain Reedy served our department and our community with unwavering dedication, courage, and compassion. He was a valued member of our team, known for his professionalism, commitment to service, love of training, and kind spirit,” the department said in a statement. “He was assigned to Station 1, where he made a lasting impact on both his fellow firefighters and the residents we serve.”

The department said funeral arrangements will be shared when they become available.
