It’s a solution residents in the Shady Tidwell Timbers community are very happy about.
HOUSTON — Neighbors fed up with piled up trash credit KHOU 11’s coverage with helping to get the mess cleaned up. They say city crews hit the streets after we aired their complaints.
The Shady Tidwell Timbers Civic Club president sent us video of Houston’s solid waste trucks rolling through, a day after we first interviewed him and others about dozens of piles throughout the area. In some cases, they claimed heavy trash or bulk waste had been sitting for months. On Thursday, we didn’t spot a single pile on any street in the neighborhood — a solution residents are very happy about.
“We have a new heavy trash person,” said longtime resident Brenda Stewart. “And they picked it up. They did a great job.”
“Do you think putting it on the news helped get it done?” we asked.
“Oh, absolutely,” Stewart said. “Oh yeah. Definitely. That always helps.”
According to Houston Solid Waste, heavy trash pickup is currently two weeks behind, but residents are encouraged to only put it out based on the schedule for their neighborhood. That’s to help keep things from piling up.
