Republican Texas Railroad Commission hopeful Bo French accuses rival of being a ‘jihadist’

In a last-second attempt to sway Republican primary voters, controversy-courting Texas Railroad Commission candidate Bo French has accused his runoff opponent of being a “jihadist.”

In the Tuesday social media post post, French touted his own credentials as an “America First Fighter,” who “battled against CDEI, Islam, and the CCP (Chinese Communist Party).” Meanwhile, he claimed Jim Wright, the incumbent he’s running against, for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and selling “Corpus Christi’s water to a foreign Muslim government.”

The bullet points under Wright’s name are written in Arabic.

“Say NO to Jihadi Jim,” French wrote in the post.

Although the post will probably read as bonkers to most voters, it’s on brand for French, a former Tarrant County GOP chair. During his time in that role, French grabbed national media attention by posting an online poll asking whether “Jews” or “Muslims” posed a bigger national security threat to the United States.

French has also generated plenty of controversy as he’s chased a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, which regulates oil and has in the state. During the race, he’s called for the deportation of Native Americans and threatening to strip the citizenship of Muslim State Rep. Salman Bhojani, D-Euless.

During the CPAC conference in Grapevine this year, French also called for the deportation of 100 million people, or about one-third of the total U.S. population.

Despite French’s inflammatory rhetoric, Wright led his rival by just 0.35% in the March primary.

Polls in Tuesday’s runoff are open until 7 p.m. today. More information on polling locations is available at the Bexar County Elections Department’s website.
