AUSTIN (KXAN) — Registration is open for the Austin CityWorks Academy, which is a civic education program giving Austinites a behind-the-scenes look at government activities, according to a city news release.
The academy offers weekly classes for a glimpse into day-to-day operations among departments. The CityWorks Academy features staff from city departments, like the Austin Police Department, Fire, EMS, Animal Services, Austin 3-1-1, Transportation and Public Works and more, according to the city.
“CityWorks Academy is more than a civic education program — it’s a space where community members connect with each other, build lasting relationships, and discover new ways to get involved,” the city said in the release.
Officials said the goal is to help those interested in the academy to find new ways to get involved in the community by understanding how city decisions happen.
The city said access is made “a priority” and “offers light dinners, accessible parking and language access accommodations, including ASL interpretation, to ensure a great experience for all participants.”
Those who wish to participate in the academy must live within the Austin city limits. The academy is scheduled to happen most Mondays from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., and classes begin in late September and end in December with a graduation ceremony, according to the city.
