Police arrest 2 in North Texas smash-and-grab spree

The two men were connected to 10 different smash-and-grab incidents in both Grapevine and Arlington, officials say.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — Two men suspected of being connected to a string of smash-and-grab incidents in North Texas were arrested Wednesday after being caught in the act in Grapevine, police said.

According to a news release from Grapevine PD, detectives connected two burglaries in Grapevine on May 29 and June 11 after uncovering the suspects’ descriptions and their preferred method of using a sledgehammer to break glass doors and steal cigarettes and cash.

Police said detectives from both Grapevine PD and Arlington PD were able to identify a suspect vehicle and two suspects believed to be connected to 10 burglaries that began on May 14.

On Wednesday, police say Grapevine detectives conducted “undercover surveillance” on the suspects and caught them while they were breaking into an Arlington business. The suspects, police said, attempted to get away but were caught and arrested.

The suspects, identified by police as Anthony Johnson, 40, and Perry Busby, 41, were taken to the Arlington City Jail and charged with burglary of a building. According to police, Johnson bonded out and Busby was transferred to the Tarrant County Detention Center.
