LEANDER, Texas (Austin Business Journal) — Austin-based iLand Development Group has been denied recommendation for approval from Leander’s Planning and Zoning Commission to update its planned unit development as it works to finally build the much-maligned 78-acre Leander Springs project northwest of Austin.
The project was announced to much fanfare in 2021 based on the promise that it would bring 1,600 apartments, a hotel and convention center, 1 million square feet of retail space and a four-acre lagoon.
While the development team secured final zoning and other approvals in 2021, the site at the corner of Farm to Market Road 2243 and the U.S. Highway 183A frontage remains untouched — and has faced numerous setbacks, including owing millions to contractors and losing its incentive agreement.
