Pilot lands safely after landing gear issue at Hooks Airport in west Houston

A skilled pilot safely landed a plane at David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport after a landing gear issue.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — An aircraft made a safe landing Saturday morning at David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport after the pilot reported a landing gear malfunction, according to the Klein Fire Department.

The airport is located on Stuebner Airline Road near Highway 99.

Around 11 a.m., the pilot radioed that the plane’s landing gear would not deploy. Firefighters from multiple agencies responded, including Klein Fire, Spring Fire, Champions Fire and Northwest Volunteer Fire.

Crews used Klein Fire’s Foam 30 unit to lay down a foam blanket on the runway, which is a precaution designed to reduce the risk of fire if sparks occurred during landing.

The aircraft remained in the air for a short time to burn off fuel before attempting to land.

By about 11:54 a.m., the pilot and crew touched down safely without incident. No injuries were reported.
