PHOTOS: Storms, strong winds tear tree limbs, damage homes

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Severe thunderstorms pushed through Central Texas Sunday night, causing damage that some only saw as the sun rose Monday morning.

KXAN’s morning team surveyed Austin neighborhoods for damage and found limbs and branches ripped from trees. These photos show damage on Royal Hill Drive in southeast Austin:

A resident of the neighborhood said that he knew severe weather was coming, but that he didn’t expect the winds to be so strong.

“Big cracks,” said resident Chris Green. “You just heard the snap and crack when the initial front came through. The rain sounded like pellets hitting the glass, our windows and stuff like that on the north side. It was kind of noisy.”
