Pearland police investigating deadly Highway 288 crash near McHard Road

One woman died and three others were hospitalized after a crash shut down part of Highway 288 near McHard Road in Pearland.

PEARLAND, Texas — A woman is dead and three other people were hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash on the southbound toll lanes of Highway 288 near McHard Road in Pearland early Thursday morning, according to Pearland police.

Police said the crash happened around 1 a.m. on the southbound side of the toll road near FM-2234/McHard Road. Investigators said four adults were inside the vehicle.

One woman died at the scene, according to police. Two other women and one man were taken from the scene to a local hospital. Authorities have not released the conditions of the surviving occupants.

Pearland police said the crash caused significant damage to the guardrail. Officials were waiting for the state to respond because of the damage, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Traffic was impacted on the southbound toll road near McHard Road. According to Houston TranStar, the left interchange ramp and right interchange ramp were affected during the investigation.

Drivers wanting to avoid the area may consider using alternate southbound routes including:

  • The non-toll main lanes of Highway 288
  • FM-518/Broadway Street through Pearland
  • State Highway 35/Main Street as an alternate north-south route

Officials have not said what led up to the crash. No additional information about the victims or the vehicle involved has been released.
