Seven people were hurt, including one critically, after an apparent explosion outside a Pearland mobile home as investigators work to determine the cause.
PEARLAND, Texas — An apparent explosion outside a Pearland mobile home left seven people hurt, including one critically injured, late Sunday night. Authorities are still working to determine what caused the blast and how the victims are doing.
The incident happened around 9:10 p.m. near the 7200 block of Libby Lane in Pearland.
A resident called 911 after hearing and seeing an explosion. When firefighters and police arrived, they found seven people suffering from burn injuries.
Officials said one person was in critical condition, two others had major burns and four had minor injuries.
Video from the scene overnight showed burned shoes, jeans and other clothing scattered near what appeared to be a fire pit, highlighting the severity of the incident.
Neighbors told KHOU 11 they believe the explosion may have started when kids threw a can of gas into a bonfire outside the mobile home. Authorities have not confirmed that information.
Officials also said there was no obvious threat to nearby residents, and the fire did not spread to other structures or vehicles.
As of Monday morning, investigators have not confirmed the exact cause of the explosion. Authorities are continuing to gather information, including updates on the victims’ conditions.
