‘Passenger disturbance’ forces Houston-bound flight to land in Nashville

Someone who was on the plane said two people were arrested when the plane landed in Tennessee. Details about what happened aren’t clear.

HOUSTON — Unruly passengers forced a Houston-bound plane to go off course on Friday afternoon.

It happened aboard a United Airlines flight that was being operated by Mesa Airlines.

The plane took off from Pittsburgh International Airport and was heading to George Bush Intercontinental Airport when crew members reported a “passenger disturbance.”

That forced the pilot to divert to Nashville International Airport, where they landed just before 2 p.m. local time.

A passenger said at least two people were arrested when they landed in Nashville, although authorities haven’t confirmed that anyone was taken into custody.

It’s unclear what happened on the plane, but Federal Aviation Administration officials said an investigation was underway.

Here’s the full statement from an FAA official:

“United Airlines Flight 6378 landed safely at Nashville International Airport around 1:50 p.m. local time Friday, Sept. 5, after the crew reported a passenger disturbance. The flight departed from Pittsburgh International Airport and was headed to George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport. The FAA will investigate. Please contact the airline and local authorities for additional information.”
