Pasadena restaurant to reopen after weekend shooting

Bubba’s 33 in Pasadena will reopen Monday after a fatal shooting forced a temporary weekend closure.

PASADENA, Texas — A Pasadena restaurant will reopen Monday after a shooting prompted the restaurant to temporarily close over the weekend.

The shooting occurred inside Bubba’s 33 off Sam Houston Tollway Friday night. One person was fatally shot. A second victim, an employee of the restaurant, sustained a non-life-threatening injury from a stray bullet.

Following the shooting, people inside the restaurant attempted to subdue the suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Kenneth Leon Scott Jr., but were unable to detain him before he got into a vehicle and fled the scene. Police say it appears the initial victim and Scott knew each other.

Saturday afternoon, Pasadena police said Scott had been arrested by the Schulenburg Police Department in Fayette County. He is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

In a statement to KHOU 11 News, Bubba’s 33 said it is reopening Monday at 11 a.m.

According to the statement, the employee who was injured was treated and released on Friday and is doing well.

“Our continued thanks go out to the Pasadena Police Department and local first responders for their quick response that evening and their ongoing diligence in this investigation,” the statement read.

Pasadena police said Scott was taken to the Fayette County Jail, where he awaits transport to Harris County.
