North Texas resident wins $41 million lottery jackpot, officials say

A Richardson resident who hasn’t missed a Lotto Texas drawing in 30 years won a $41 million jackpot prize, the lottery announced.

RICHARDSON, Texas — A North Texan won a $41 million Lotto Texas jackpot prize, the Texas Lottery announced. 

The prize was claimed by a Richardson resident after the drawing held on April 20, according to a press release from the Texas lottery. The winner chose to take the cash value of the win and recieved $22,574,163.57 before taxes, officials said. 

The winning ticket matched all six of the numbers drawn and was purchased at a 7-Eleven located at 3700 Interstate 30 in Mesquite, the Texas Lottery said. 

The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, told the Texas Lottery that they haven’t missed a Lotto Texas drawing in 30 years, the release states. 

When the winning numbers were announced, the winner’s spouse checked the ticket multiple times before waking them up. They plan to use the winnings to help their children and grandchildren, plus travel the world, the release states. 

“I stayed up all night thinking about it!” the winner said in the release. “There’s a whole world out there I need to see!”

The Texas Lotto jackpot started at a $5 million prize and stretched 66 drawings before being hit on April 20. Drawings are held every Monday.
