While the owners expressed a desire to continue the business, they acknowledged that the restaurant is now closed “for the foreseeable future.”
DALLAS — After nearly a decade of serving Japanese barbecue to the Dallas community, Niwa Japanese BBQ has officially closed its doors.
In a heartfelt message shared on the restaurant’s social media accounts, the company announced the closure, reflecting on “9 incredible years” filled with both challenges and triumphs.
“The love and support we’ve received has been beyond anything we could have imagined,” the statement read. While the owners expressed a desire to continue for “another 9 (or more),” they acknowledged that the restaurant is now closed “for the foreseeable future.”
The restaurant officially closed on June 28.
The announcement did not provide specific reasons for the closure, but hinted at a new chapter. “We’re not entirely sure what’s next, but we’re excited for the journey ahead,” the statement read.
Founded in 2016, Niwa BBQ offered diners a two-phase experience: first, the kitchen served a curated selection of appetizers, followed by a traditional yakiniku-style meal where guests grill meats themselves on built-in tabletop grills.
In the heart of Deep Ellum, it quickly became a staple for those seeking a hands-on culinary experience. One standout tradition was its popular “Meat Day” special — a delicious sample platter offered on the 29th of each month for just $29.
“To everyone who supported us over the years — thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” the message concluded. “You made it possible for us to share Japanese BBQ with our community for so long. We will meet again soon.”
