New beach parking fees coming to Galveston’s Pocket Park 3

Galveston introduces parking fees at Pocket Park 3 to fund beach improvements.

GALVESTON, Texas — Visitors heading to Pocket Park 3 on 11 Mile Road will soon notice new beach user fees, part of a City of Galveston initiative to fund improvements and amenities at the popular beach destination.

Starting Thursday, July 3, the new fee structure will be:

  • $15 per day for parking on the sand (with limited space available)
  • $10 per day for parking in the main lot

To help ensure continued access for all residents and visitors, 30 of the approximately 270 parking spaces in the lot will remain free of charge, available on a first-come, first-served basis, city officials said.

The collected fees will cover both parking and the use of the onsite restrooms. The revenue will be reinvested into Pocket Park 3, with plans to renovate existing restrooms and add new amenities to enhance the visitor experience.

“Implementing beach user fees is a necessary step toward maintaining and improving this valuable public space,” City Manager Brian Maxwell said. “These funds will help ensure Pocket Park 3 remains a clean, safe, and enjoyable place for the community.”

Attendants will staff Pocket Park 3 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and holidays and weekends from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to the city.
