The Netflix documentary “Maternal Instinct” explores the shocking 2020 murder of Reagan Simmons-Hancock, with Taylor Parker convicted of the crime.
An East Texas murder case will be at the center of a Netflix documentary.
“Maternal Instinct” addresses the 2020 killing of Reagan Simmons-Hancock in New Boston, Texas. Prosecutors say Taylor Parker attacked the pregnant 22-year-old and removed the unborn child, who did not survive.
The description from Netflix reads:
“The documentary follows the story of Taylor Parker, a young woman claiming to come from a wealthy family, who fell for Wade Griffin, a local hog trapper in a small East Texas town. Their relationship appeared perfect, and within months, she was pregnant, proudly showing off her baby bump all over social media. As her due date approached, however, questions around her pregnancy mounted, and her family, her devoted partner, and her wider community began to voice their doubts. But when the shocking truth finally surfaced, it brought consequences too horrifying for anyone to have imagined.”
Parker, 29, was convicted of murdering Simmons-Hancock on Oct. 9, 2020. Simmons-Hancock was seven-and-a-half months pregnant when she was attacked at a home in New Boston. Parker also cut the unborn baby from Simmons-Hancock’s womb. The baby did not survive.
Parker was taken into custody the same day in Idabel, Oklahoma, in connection with the crime.
According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, law enforcement was notified Parker had arrived at a hospital with a baby, claiming she had just given birth to the baby on the side of the road. OSBI Agents and Idabel Detectives went to the hospital and learned Parker had been stopped by a Texas State Trooper in DeKalb.
The OSBI says Parker told the trooper she just had the baby and the baby wasn’t breathing. At that point, she and the baby were taken to the hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead.
Parker was sentenced to death in 2022.
The documentary will premiere June 12.
