Severe storms brought tornadoes and damaging wind across North Texas this past weekend.
DALLAS — We already knew that Sunday’s severe weather caused damage across North Texas, and knew that winds, which at times reached speeds of up to 105 miles per hour, were a big part of that.
Now we can add tornadoes to the list of culprits.
As of Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service in Fort Worth has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in North Texas on June 8.
Here’s what we know about each of these spin-ups that occurred near the Red River, including their Enhanced Fujita Scale ratings.
EF1 – SW of Sherman (Grayson County)
- Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph
- Path Length: 4 miles
This tornado blew down several trees and damaged a few barns. A trailer was also blown onto its side.
EF1 – Ravenna (Fannin County)
- Estimated Peak Wind: 105 mph
- Path Length: 3.01 miles
This tornado caused minor damage to a few homes but completely destroyed a mobile home. It also caused lots of tree damage, uprooted trees and blew a horse trailer across a roadway.
EF1 – Bonham (Fannin County)
- Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph
- Path Length: 5.59 miles
This tornado caused a lot of tree damage, plus damage to homes. It also blew the roof off of a Braum’s, flattened the scoreboard at Warrior Stadium and lifted part of the roof off the side of Finley Oates Elementary School.
