Motocross star Aidan Zingg dies at 16 following mid-race crash

The 16-year-old rising motocross star was competing in Mammoth Lakes, California on Saturday, when the crash occurred.

WASHINGTON — Aidan Zingg, a rising motocross star, has died following a mid-race crash over the weekend. He was 16. 

The motocross prodigy was competing in the 2025 Mammoth Motocross event in Mammoth Lakes, California on Saturday. According to motocross journalist Donn Maeda, Zingg suffered fatal injuries at the event. 

His death was reported by several motocross outlets, including MX Sports.

@aidanzingg was one of those kids that made an impression on you from the moment you met him.” Maeda said in a post on Instagram. “Motocross gives us all so much pleasure, but it can also take from us. I’ve been told that he suffered fatal injuries at Mammoth MX today. My heart goes out to the Zingg family. I can’t even fathom what they’re feeling. Rest easy, buddy.”

DirtbikeLover, a motocross outlet, reported that the teen prodigy “went down in a corner during the race” and was “reportedly run over by multiple bikes and remained unconscious on the track for two laps before the race was red flagged.”

The teenager had recently signed with Team Green Kawasaki for the remainder of the 2025 season. 

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Kawasaki Team Green rider Aidan Zingg Zingg lost his life following injuries sustained during a crash at Mammoth Motocross in Mammoth Lakes, California. Zingg’s dedication and kind demeanor will forever be remembered ,” Kawasaki Racing said in a statement on X. 

Several motocross outlets paid tribute following the news of Zingg’s death.

“It’s with an extremely heavy heart we report on the passing of young Kawasaki prospect Aidan Zingg Please keep the entire Zingg family in your thoughts and prayers,” Racer X Illustrated said on Facebook. “Godspeed Aidan Zingg 2009-2025.”

“We’re at a loss for words… Our hearts go out to our friend @aidanzingg , his family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy Rest in peace, Aidan. 🙏❤️,” Motosports said on Instagram late Sunday.
