Midway to rebuild Houston green space with $5M project

Midway plans to begin construction work to rebuild the green space and detention vault later this month according to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

HOUSTON — Houston-based Midway plans to spend $5 million rebuilding a central green space that collapsed last year at a prominent townhome community.

The collapse occurred in the Memorial Green mixed-use development last July, prompting the Houston Fire Department to evacuate eight townhomes at 405 Sunderland Terrace Place as a precautionary measure.

The central green space that collapsed covered a so-called detention vault, which was designed to capture rainwater to prevent flooding.

At the time, initial assessments determined that the central green space collapsed because an accumulation of rain on the soil covering the detention vault likely proved too heavy for it.

Midway did not immediately respond to the Houston Business Journal’s July 7 requests for comment on the rebuilding project.

A filing submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation late last week said Midway plans to begin construction work to rebuild the green space and the detention vault later this month.
